Welcome to Toddlerhood?

I heard that particular, unmistakeable, and ominous sound for the first time today:

"Sploosh." *pause*  "Sploosh." *pause*  "Sploosh."

Yes, LW snuck into the bathroom while I was working (oops, forgot to shut the door), and was methodically throwing all her bath toys into the toilet.

I wish I could say that it would be the first and last time I'd ever hear that sound, but I'm too much of a realist for that.

Just think about the intelligence that required. She had to have noticed that there was water in the toilet (it's sort of amazing she'd ever noticed the toilet at all - not that she seems to miss much), she had to make the connection between the water in the toilet and the water in the tub, she had to retrieve those toys one at a time. I'm impressed that a baby less than 13 months old could even make all of those connections, and even figure out how to do it so that she didn't initially get prevented in her attempt. Of course the scary thing is that that intelligence could have gotten her into some serious trouble (like into the stuff in the cabinet. It just demonstrates how parents have to not underestimate the toddler brain, and be on their toes all the time.

Hi Abby,
I'm impressed as well about the toilet episode! Perhaps you'll have to hide the toilet brush now?

Thanks for sharing your story about how you met and eventually married Jim. I love hearing happy love stories! Ben and I were also married in Aug 2008 and our Little Man was a honeymoon baby ;-)He also proposed in a church! Will the similarities never end?!
